Looking for big climbs, quiet mountain roads, and views that go on forever? Base yourself in the Kamnik–Savinja Alps and ride these five tried-and-tested routes. They pack serious elevation, iconic passes, and classic Slovenian scenery—perfect for strong riders or anyone training for alpine events.

1) Lipa → Izlake → Kamnik → Črnivec
Distance: 136.1 km Elevation: 2,751 m – View on Strava
A grand tour of local climbs linking Lipa and the approach to Črnivec/Kranjski Rak with Zasavje’s punchy ramps. Expect a rolling first half, steep kickers (including double-digit ramps), then an alpine finish toward Črnivec before the run home to Kamnik. Great for riders who want a full-day challenge without crossing borders.
2) Road: Alternate Alpe (Logarska Dolina → Pavličev sedlo → Jezersko)
Distance: 149.3 km Elevation: 3,365 m – View on Strava
A big, beautiful loop through Logarska Dolina and over Pavličev sedlo (Paulitschsattel) into Austria before swinging back via Jezersko. Long, steady alpine climbing, big vertical, and sublime scenery make this a bucket-list day. Pace your nutrition—there’s a lot of altitude to cover.
3) Mozirje → “Kraška/Graška Gora” → Dobrna → Dobrovlje
Distance: 150.9 km Elevation: 2,361 m – View on Strava
South of the Savinja valley you’ll stitch together classic hills like Graška Gora and the stair-step climb of Dobrovlje. Compared with the high passes, gradients are more variable—think a rolling marathon with sting-in-the-tail ramps and fast, technical descents. Ideal when you want distance and rhythm without the highest cols.
4) Pavličev sedlo → Ljubelj (Loibl Pass) → Šenturška Gora → Črnivec
Distance: 165.9 km Elevation: 4,030 m – View on Strava
The queen stage. Climb Pavličev sedlo to Austria, take on Schaidasattel, then return via Ljubelj/Loibl Pass, finishing with Šenturška Gora and Črnivec/Volovljek sector back toward Kamnik. A proper alpine epic with four-thousand metres of gain—have a good breakfast and an early start!

5) Volovljek (Kranjski Rak) & Lipa
Distance: 95.5 km Elevation: 1,532 m – View on Strava
Shorter on distance but loaded with quality climbing: the Volovljek (Kranjski Rak) ascent from Podvolovljek and the classic Lipa from the Vransko side. Perfect for a punchy training day or as a first taste of local passes before stepping up to longer loops.
