K24 Hiking Route: Five Peaks, 80KM and 5000M of Ascent from Luče.

Published on 4 February 2026 at 14:00

K-24 is a long-distance hiking route in the Koroška region that links five major peaks in a single, continuous loop: Uršlja gora, Smrekovec, Raduha, Olševa and Peca. The classic version is around 80 kilometres long with roughly 5,000 metres of ascent, the original idea is simple: climb all five peaks within 24 hours.

For most people, K24 is better approached as a demanding multi-day trek. But for very fit and experienced hikers, trail runners and fast-packers, it becomes a serious “in one go” challenge – and our home base in Luče is perfectly placed on the edge of the K24 mountains.

The trail follows a mix of marked mountain paths and ridgeline tracks. It is not technically extreme, but it is long, committing and physically demanding, and you are in proper mountain terrain for most of the route.

The five peaks of K24

Uršlja gora (1,699 m)
The westernmost peak on the loop and home to the well-known Dom na Uršlji gori hut and the church of St Ursula just below the summit. It offers wide-ranging views across Koroška and towards the Savinja Alps.

Smrekovec (1,577 m)
A long, forested volcanic ridge rather than a sharp peak. The route passes Dom na Smrekovcu, a welcoming mountain hut and a good place for food or an overnight stop on a multi-day version.

Raduha (2,062 m)
A familiar name if you have stayed in Luče. Raduha is a prominent limestone mountain that rises above the Savinja Valley, with Koča na Loki pod Raduho sitting on its southern flank. From the summit you get big views over the Kamnik–Savinja Alps and across towards Koroška.

Olševa (around 1,930 m)
A long, rocky ridge forming part of the natural border between the Savinja Alps and Koroška. The views into the Solčava region and towards Logar Valley are superb and give a real sense of how the K24 line links Koroška to the Kamnik–Savinja Alps.

Peca (2,125 m)
The highest of the five peaks and the northern anchor of the loop. It sits directly above Črna na Koroškem and provides a fitting “last big climb” before the final descent back into the valley. On clearer days you can see deep into Austria and across much of the Koroška region.

Distance, elevation and difficulty

* Distance: 80–90 km (loop)
* Ascent: roughly 5,000–5,300 m
* Terrain: marked mountain trails, forest tracks, alpine ridges
* Technicality: mostly non-technical hiking, but with steep, rocky sections and some exposed areas on the higher peaks; sure-footedness is essential

* Fast, non-stop challenge: under 24 hours for very fit and experienced mountain athletes
* Strong but not “ultra” hikers: 2–4 days with hut nights

It is graded as a difficult or “heavy” long-distance hike on official descriptions. This is not a first-time mountain route – it is designed for people who are already comfortable with full-day hikes, significant elevation gain and self-reliance in the mountains.

Mountain huts and suggested multi-day options

One of the strengths of the K24 area is the number of traditional mountain huts along the route. These give you flexible options for turning the challenge into a multi-day trek.

Key huts and stopping points include:

* Dom na Uršlji gori – near the summit of Uršlja gora
* Andrejev dom na Slemenu – between Uršlja gora and Smrekovec
* Dom na Smrekovcu – on the Smrekovec ridge
* Koča na Loki pod Raduho – on the southern side of Raduha, above Luče
* Kumer farm (Kmetija Kumer) – in the Koprivna area between Olševa and Peca
* Dom na Peci – hut below the summit of Peca (if included in your variant)

We are happy to help you work out realistic stages based on your fitness, experience and how many hut nights you want.

Doing K24 as a one-go challenge

The original spirit of K24 is to link all five peaks within 24 hours and join “Club 24”. In practice, this means:

* Climbing all five summits
* Covering around 80 km with roughly 5,000 m of ascent
* Moving efficiently through day and night with minimal stops

Attempting K24 in a single push is only suitable for very fit, experienced mountain hikers or trail runners with:

* Strong navigation skills
* Experience of moving safely at night
* A well-thought-out nutrition and hydration plan
* Appropriate kit for rapid changes in mountain weather

If you are tempted by the idea of a full K24 push during your stay with us, we can help you plan a supported option. That could include:

* Drop bags or resupply points at selected huts
* A base in Luče for the days before and after your attempt
* Advice on route choices and realistic pacing
